Our last stop Morris Island! It is an uninhabited barrier island steeped in history and only accessible by boat. The 54th Massachusetts, which was the first African American union troops to fight in the Civil War, fought and died on this island. Not only do we find Civil war artifacts but also sharks teeth, Indian pottery as well as beautiful shells which cascade the sandy beach! This is an experience, no matter what the age, your whole family can enjoy. While you’re exploring the beach the sixth oldest lighthouse in the nation serves as your backdrop! This was such an amazing excursion! The guide was exceptionally flexible and knowledgeable. He worked with us to reschedule when our scheduled day/time was stormy. We saw multiple dolphins and the guide was careful to avoid disturbing them. I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour!

We’ve gone on two tours with Gresh now and they are wonderful! We saw a ton of dolphins and other wildlife. He’s very knowledgeable about the islands ecology and history.

Absolutely amazing experience!! Gresh is not only the captain but also a dog and dolphin whisperer. We have been on several dolphin tours but have never seen so many and up so close. The boat was cleaned to perfection as well.

Our time out with Gresh was one of the highlights of our trip to Charleston! It was amazing being out on the water learning about the local environment from someone who has a ton of knowledge and passion for Folly. We loved cursing through the marsh grass, admiring the local wildlife (including tons of dolphin sightings) and collecting shark teeth by the lighthouse. Would absolutely recommend to anyone interested in adding an adventure to their trip.

Can’t say enough about the magical day we had on the Folly River and out at Morris Island with Capt. Gresh of Absolute Reel Screamer Charters. A perfect blend of history, wildlife sightings, lighthouse views and shell/shark tooth hunting, Gresh’s local knowledge of Folly’s waterways and surrounds is unparalleled. He made sure our family of four were comfortable, safe, and well-informed the entire trip. As an 8th generation Charleston native, you just can’t beat the experience you’ll get on the water with Capt. Gresh. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This was an amazing charter. We took our dog Athena, who’s never been on a boat, and she did beautifully. Gresch was amazing! So knowledgeable about the local wildlife and the area. More as silent was the absolute highlight of the trip. I would highly recommend this charter, we had a wonderful time.

Our boat ride with Capt Gresh was the highlight of our trip! Not only did we see some dolphins but a bald eagle as well. Will definitely book again on our next trip.

A private tour like this was perfect. Our group thought this adventure made our trip! Captain Geresh is a gem. He gave us the greatest dolphin experience. We watched a dolphin teaching her calf to fish plus a group of dolphins Strand Feeding. He gave us interesting history of the island and lighthouse. He gave us time for shelling too! Captain Geresh worked around rainy weather to make sure we received the full experience. Thank you Captain!

Captain Gresh a local native was awesome and this was the highlight of our trip to Charleston! He was super knowledgeable of area, history and wildlife. He was very accommodating for us and our 1 year old golden retriever. Morris island was beautiful and relaxing. We saw numerous dolphins during the entire charter. Captain Gresh wasn’t ever in a hurry and made the trip very enjoyable. Definitely will book again. Give him a call. You won’t be disappointed. Support your original local Guy!!!

Very fun trip taken with my girlfriend and small dog. Captain was very helpful in helping locate him, get us launched, and had very interesting and helpful overview of the wildlife, the geography, history, and his own family lineage! Will definitely plan to repeat when back in the area and highly encourage reserving!

We went with Captain Gresh in the morning June 2, 2025, out to Morris Island. He told us a lot about the area along the way, stopped to do some great photo ops with dolphins, and made our trip very enjoyable. Is an excellent captain, the island is beautiful, the charger is everything promised. Our nine-year-old daughter loved it, her four year-old son liked the boat ride because it was nice and calm. A real five star trip.

Gresh was awesome and this was the highlight of our trip to Folly Beach/Charleston! He was super knowledgeable, we saw a bunch of dolphins, and as an added bonus my wife found a rare "dropped" bullet from the civil war while we were on Morris Island. Gresh clearly knows his stuff, and shared a lot of fascinating history of Morris Island/Fort Wagner and the surrounding area. Also learned a lot about the biodiversity of the area as well. Despite the unseasonably cold weather, our kids (4 and 7) had a fantastic time seeing dolphins and walking on Morris Island (which had an insane amount of sea shells), Gresh also brought a blanket to keep the kids warm during the boat ride! One thing to note, his website was being updated, but I was able to call him and book the tour easily that way.

This was such an intimate, enriching experience. Captain Gresh enlightened us with history while engaging us with sights of lobster reefs and feeding dolphins. A restful walk on the island scouring for shells completed the day. It was a wonderful immersion into life on Folly’s Beach.

Author: randy082054 | Date: 11/17/2024 | Source: tripadvisor | Rating: 5 stars

We had a beautiful day to join Captain Gresh on a fun and educational tour through the wetlands between Folly Beach and Charleston. Captain Gresh, a native son of the area, shared his extensive knowledge of the history of this area. He then landed his boat on Morris Island where we four adults and our four dogs disembarked and wandered about the island. This is a great way to see sights you cannot see from the land and soak up some sun, sea and local history. We enjoyed this very much and recommend this tour highly. Thank you, Captain Gresh!

Went on the dolphin cruise with my family of 3 on August 2nd and it was amazing, Captain was so knowledgeable about the area and history of Morris island and the wildlife. We were able to see so many dolphins some came so close to the boat. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a personal experience for your family. Outstanding, fun, educational, Thank you Captain

Our family charter experience with Gresh was exactly what we needed. It was so peaceful and beautiful. We saw so many dolphins! We even saw a newborn baby dolphin. The island was almost empty and we found great shells and a sand dollar. We didn’t think we would swim on the island but my son definitely ran into the ocean with all of his clothes on so you might want to come prepared for that. This was our favorite part of our vacation… save money on a boring horse and buggy ride and put it towards this life long memory. Gresh was very kind and shared so much of his knowledge to enhance our experience but also left just the right amount of quiet time so we could enjoy the nature.

Author: Mindy H | Date: 6/14/2024 | Source: tripadvisor | Rating: 5 stars

Gresh is a friendly, knowledgable and passionate guide. An eighth generation local to the area, he knows the waterways, the wildlife, the history, not to mention everyone else out on the water! Dolphins approached our boat, and the lighthouse island is just awesome, full of sand dollars, shark teeth and even an old shipwreck. It was a super special and magical morning for us — we recommend!

Author: Erika Simonian | Date: 5/8/2024 | Source: google | Rating: 5 stars

My husband, with our adult sons and their spouses, took the Private Eco Tour and Dolphin Watch with Gresh. We all enjoyed the experience, especially the knowledge Gresh has of the area and the environment. Part of the trip is spent on the beach of Morris island with great views of the Morris Island Lighthouse. We loved that it was just our group and since we were staying on Folly Beach, loved that we didn’t have to drive into Charleston for the excursion.

This was the highlight of our trip! Our guide was great! Very knowledgeable and fun. We saw a lot of dolphins and the lighthouse was beautiful. We had time to walk on the island and looks for shells. We found some conch shells and sand dollars. The kids LOVED riding on the boat, and seeing a mama and her young dolphin hunting for fish and shrimp. It was awesome. Something we will remember forever, and worth every penny!! Highly recommend.

Our family had such a good time on this relaxing boat tour. We found conch shells on Morris Island, saw a few dolphins in the estuary and soaked in the beauty of the low country of South Carolina.

Captain Gresh did an amazing job of sharing his knowledge and boat with us! We loved seeing the dolphins, finding treasures on the island and enjoyed the cooling breeze on the return ride. We highly recommend!

Our charter was great. Captain Gresh was excellent. Obviously, he has a lot of experience on the local water ways. The beach was very cool. There were lots of shells and little water critters to observe including a couple of dolphins along the way.

We really enjoyed our private tour. We saw several dolphins in several locations. Enjoyed getting to explore Morris Island. We learned things we didn’t know. I would highly recommend taking a charter with Gresh.

Had a great time and would highly recommended. We brought our dog who hadn’t been on a boat before and Capt was very patient and easy going with having him aboard.

Captain Gresh was awesome! Our dogs enjoyed the trip so much and he really made it fun for everyone. Going out to Morris Island was so neat and we found some great keepsakes. We made lots of memories. My son is already asking if we can go back again so we will definitely be a recurring customer.

Author: Natasha Smith | Date: 2/8/2024 | Source: google | Rating: 5 stars

We had a private tour rescheduled due to weather, and our concierge gave us the incorrect new time. Gresh was kind enough to allow us to join another family on their tour. You get to hear some of his family's history in the area, see oyster reefs, dolphins, and then you are dropped off on Morris Island for around 45 minutes to look for shells, take pics etc. The boat was very clean and the boat ride very pleasant. I'd recommend wearing comfortable shoes that can get sandy and a small bag to carry your shells. Cost was 225/couple.

This was a wonderful trip! Captain Gresh is so friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife found there. Morris Island is beautiful and peaceful, and it's great that Gresh welcomed our dog on his boat. So much better having this private quiet trip rather than with a tourist group. We plan to do this again.

Author: Margaret B | Date: 8/28/2023 | Source: tripadvisor | Rating: 5 stars

What a relaxing morning, and I got to ask a thousand questions while we floated along the beautiful waterways and watched for dolphins. Walking on Morris Island was so peaceful, too. Great tour guide with in depth knowledge of local history and wildlife. Well worth the drive out From Charleston.

Spent the morning with Gresh on the Morris Island Lighthouse Eco-Tour and cannot begin to tell you what a great time we had. There’s nothing like getting a history tour from an 8th generation Charlestonian. Gresh took us for a close up of the oyster beds and a pod of dolphins, approximately 5 feet from our boat. Then he dropped us off on the island for 45 minutes to tour on our own. I highly recommend taking his tour when visiting Charleston S.C.

Author: David D | Date: 6/1/2023 | Source: tripadvisor | Rating: 5 stars

This was my 5th charter with Captain Gresh, and it was awesome, as usual! We learn something new each time we go out with him! This time he helped us find a petrified shark vertebrae, which he estimated to be 15,000,000 years old! We thought it might be cool to find a civil war artifact, but this is WAY cooler!!!

This was an amazing excursion for our family. Captain Gresh is a fantastic and knowledgeable guide. The tour was just the right amount of time with kids and we liked that it was private. We saw multiple dolphins and other sea creatures in our trip. Would recommend this 100%!!

We took the 8am morning tour with Captain Gresh! Gresh was amazing and so informative, our 3 year mini aussie really enjoyed the boat ride as well! It was such a great experience when Gresh let us get off at Morris Island and told us to let our dog run free! One of the best times our dog ever had :) We even saw many dolphins on the way back! Highly reccommend taking this tour with Captain Gresh!

We had a great boat ride with Captain Gresh! We took the afternoon spot and hopped on board with our 2 year old Australian Shepherd. Gresh was so patient with him and all his barking. We learned a lot about the area and its interesting history. We saw a few young dolphins and got to explore Morris Island and the see the lighthouse up close. It was a great way to spend the afternoon! I highly recommend it if you are staying nearby!

Thank you to everyone that took the time to post photos and do detailed reviews for this. It’s what made me book it. So, I too am returning the favor in hopes it helps another family find this awesome adventure. We were RVing at the KOA and wanted to do a fun adventure. We were two families that each have a 9 year old. It was AMAZING!!!! Gresh was a local who was passionate about Charleston, its history and his roots. We saw dolphins (moms with their babies ) and loved getting to explore that deserted beach with tons of shells, starfish and just beauty. We did the 11am-1pm which was perfect if you have kids. Right after the boat adventure we grabbed food down at a local pub and then headed back to the campsite. I love that it was just our family crew so we weren’t there stuck with any annoying people (because my old tired mom self doesn’t feel like dealing with 20year old drunks on a party boat ) This was well worth the price (I was shocked it wasn’t more expensive ) (way less expensive then any tourist trap and it was the most amazing individualized experience ever) Thank you Gresh. You rocked

We had a great trip to Morris Island with Capt Gresh! We learned civil war history from this area, saw dolphins frolicking in the marsh waters, and found beautiful shells and even a fossilized shark tooth. What a fun and informative outing!

Capt Gresh was the greatest! He far exceeded our expectations. He was on time, professional and friendly. He was full of history, current info and fun facts too. His boat was clean and in proper working order. He knew all the rivers, creeks and waterways like the back of his hand. We saw so many things I hadn’t seen before and some old favorites too, including: oyster beds, crab traps, beautiful homes, the Morris Island landscape at low tide, shells, birds, flounder, dolphins, even old bullets from the Civil War! We felt safe because of Capt Gresh’s good instruction. We would book with him again and again. One of the highlights of our trip to Folly Beach and the Charleston area.

What a memorable experience for our family. We truly enjoyed our time on Morris Island and watching the dolphins surround our boat throughout the journey. Captain Gresh and his boat are perfect size, well maintained and clean. Captain is very knowledgable as he grew up in these waters and has answers to all your questions. He had samples of some unique finds from Morris Island that he showed my kids which they loved. Our goal was to find fossils or unique items during our excursion. He was able to identify most items we found in Morris Island and were able to take them all home. We found large beaver tooth and fossilized whale bone. Highly recommend this tour!

If you want the best tour of the waterways in Folly Beach contact Capt. Gresh. He knows the water like you know the back of your hand. We not only saw dolphins and other wildlife we were also given the history of the area. His family has been in the area for many generations and his knowledge is priceless. He is super laid back and gave us as much time as we needed to explore the area around the lighthouse. We found some fantastic shells. This was the pinnacle of our trip this week. We’ll definitely be back!

The tour with Captain Gresh was one of the highlights of our trip to Charleston and Folly Beach. He knows the environment, the sea-life and obviously all of the locals. The banter with his local friends as they passed by on the water was fun to hear. His knowledge of the local history was fantastic. I highly recommend taking the tour with the Captain.

We couldn’t have picked a better tour than with Capitan Gresh. He is so knowledgeable about history of the lighthouse and the area. He made us feel right at home as soon as we got on the boat! I would highly recommend taking the dolphin-lighthouse tour with him.

Captain Gresh is a local and can trace his family back to before the Civil War. He has a great deal of knowledge of the surrounding area and history. He brought us to see dolphins and to Morris Island.

Captain Gresh was fantastic. He was able to accommodate us on short notice after a weather delay. He has a long history in the area and answered all out questions with enthusiasm. As good as he was it would be hard to beat the show the dolphins put on. They where rising all around us for a good hour on the way in and out. We where blown away and would recommend the experience to everyone.

Captain Gresh was a wonderful host. He met us in the parking lot and made sure we parked in a spot that would not get us ticketed. We have a son with special needs. He made sure he was taken care of and had the best seat on the boat. The ride out and back were fun. We saw dolphins and oyster beds. He would stop so we could get pictures. He is a native of this area and shared the history with us. Once we got to the island we were free to explore on our own. I recommend wearing water shoes. There were whelk seashells, sand dollars, crabs, etc. Amazing photos with the Morris lighthouse in the background!! This was my favorite activity of our trip. So peaceful and calm once you reached this island!

Two hours was barely enough time to soak in all the history and interesting facts Captain Gresh shared with us. Boating to Morris Island through the marshes was beyond beautiful, and we saw more dolphins (and their calves) up close and personal than I've seen living here for 40+ years. The shelling and shark tooth hunting on Morris Island was outstanding. If you're just visiting Folly Beach or the Charleston area, this is a MUST DO for a very intimate look at the Lowcountry's pristine waterways and ecosystems.

Had a great outing with Captain Gresh! He’s eighth generation on these waters and shared his knowledge and history of the area, and he knew just where we’d see some dolphins, which was so fun! We explored an island, gathered shells, and enjoyed the views. Also, Gresh accommodated request for a life preserver for 3 yr old, which was greatly appreciated. Go - really - you won’t regret it.

We made a last minute call to hop on a tour and Captain Gresh was accommodating. So glad we decided to do this. The landscape is beautiful and so much more enjoyable to see in this open air boat. Captain Gresh has intimate knowledge of the area and an intimate knowledge of the area from growing up on the river. He is patient and helps to bring the area alive. We saw dolphins and ogled the light house. We highly recommend this tour.

Our family had a delightful time with Captain Gresh yesterday. Our family is aged from 5 to 75 and each person fully enjoyed riding the boat and walking around Morris Island. It was the perfect introduction to the "littles" on riding a boat and learning about the Lowcountry waterways. We saw many playful dolphins and gathered some great shells. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to entertain many ages! We all left with smiles and good memories!

He is super nice and, honestly, I think this was the best part of our trip. Also, I should note that I heard about him from a person who took his tour 10 years ago and still had his number saved! This is an excursion that will stay in our memories forever. Captain Gresh made a drab dreary day into something spectacular. The history of his family and his knowledge of the area is remarkable. And the sea life and shells surround you... then the lighthouse and island walk is one of the best tours we’ve had and we are lighthouse lovers. We hope you choose to tour with captain Gresh and support local business. I don’t think you will be disappointed!

Captain Gresh Meggett was excellent from start to finish. He was professional, personable and focused on providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all of us. Gresh's family has been in Charleston for eight generations. During our tour he seamlessly shared his expert knowledge of the local history and wildlife.....no practiced speech here, just the genuine affection he clearly has for the people and way of life. We were able to thoroughly relax on the ride out the the lighthouse, saw dolphins, and found many interesting items on the beach walk: old whiskey bottle, piece of whale bone, and Captain Gresh even found an intact shark vertebrae (rare), then gifted it to "the birthday boy"...my brother-in-law! Wonderful guide, wonderful trip....We will be back!

It was an absolute treat to take this special tour with a lifelong friend. Gresh is so knowledgeable about all things low country.....dolphins, birds, fish, oysters, tides, marsh grasses, Morris Island, sharks teeth, shells, artifacts, and so much more. Being a Charleston native myself, I learned things that I’ve never known about this beautiful place we get to call home! Our tour with Gresh was absolutely soul feeding. First off Gresh being a multi-generation local of this area was so warm and compassionate. He made us feel right at home and welcome. We had watched the movie “Glory” and it was very moving to be there where it had all happened. It made my heart ache for the pain that so many suffered but I also was humbled by the sacrifices so many made. If only the beach and surf could talk to us, the stories they would share. We got to see dolphins, oysters in their own environment and collected shells that I will have forever that will always make my heart smile when I look at them. I had never been on a boat ride like that before and I was a bit nervous but it was exhilarating and I loved it!! Rain put a damper on our first trip out there, so Gresh made the offer to take us out the next day to complete our trip and that is what we did the next afternoon, and revisited dolphins, and got to see the lighthouse. Gresh was so respectful of this area, it was heartwarming to see and experience. Thank you Gresh!!!!

As an 8th generation Charlestonian, Captain Gresh really knows his history! We thoroughly enjoyed a two hour tour which took us by feeding dolphins, a private history lesson on Morris Island and the Morris Island lighthouse, and being the only beachcombers to temporarily inhabit Morris island as we culled the shore for shells, sand dollars, sharks teeth, and artifacts! Captain Gresh was really laid-back and accommodating, and kept us laughing throughout our tour. HIGHLY recommend!!
